Successful Launches are Overrated

One of the benefits of the open startup movement is that you can see how much money bootstrapped software projects (info products are a different story) are making on launch day. I’ve noticed over and over that products that launch #1 on Product Hunt, HN, are talked about and shared by all the “who’s and who” on twitter often don’t make much money if at all.

It is hard sometimes to not feel dissapointed when you launch something and it doesn’t get any hype, but the reality is that even products that get all the hype on launch day don’t make any money.

Having a successful product is hard and takes a long term commitment, specially a marketing commitment that most of us devs don’t like to do and are bad at it.
